his disappearance has been a mystery for decades. now authorities are hoping a michigan driveway will lead them to the body of famed union boss jimmy hoffa. 10 burglaries in one week. how some crooks are breaking into homes in howard county and the neighbors there are nervous about thieves targeting them. and the o's, they are fighting to be number one in the league, but will the red sox keep them in the spot tonight? that is a big question all of us are wondering on this friday morning. you see charley out there live at the yard. good morning and happy friday. i'm megan pringle. as you can see charley out live this morning, of course, talking about all the excitement with the o's.

>>reporter: you know, a lot going on this weekend, megan regarding the orioles. it's fan appreciation weekend. we've got events and promotions tonight, tomorrow and sunday. but, you know, the ravens, they played last night and it was a wet one over at m and t bank stadium. rain possible in -- rain possibly in the forecast today. we're in a break. hey, lynette, do people need to pri these when they come to the ballpark tonight? >> no. they are not going to need that. we're going to get a break. this is what we're dealing with for the rest of the morning. this will move through the area and then we'll get a break and then maybe a slight show as we go into the afternoon and evening, but mainly along the eastern shore. things looking good for the game. that's what you have to look forward to. let's tell you what's going on right now because we do have heavier downpours along montgomery county this morning, along i-270. they actually had a severe thunderstorm warning there yesterday. that is long gone. we're just dealing with a few showers this morning. heavy rain along i-83. if you're heading up into

pennsylvania around new freedom this morning, this is sliding towards jarrettsville, bel aire will get in on this as well and perryville. perryman, this will cross over the bay and things will begin to improve as we head through the morning hours. temperatures once again quite mild this morning. you don't need that jacket as you step out the door. the hour-by-hour forecast brings us up to about 77 degrees by lunchtime with some sun and some clouds. let's get a check now of abc 2 time saver traffic with lauren cook. good morning, lauren. >>reporter: good morning. we are dealing with breaking news in anne arundel county. there is a two-alarm fire on bee street. we'll, of course, bring you the very latest developments as they become available. we are dealing with quite a bit of rain and fog this morning, so you do have to be extra careful getting to work. unfortunately -- fortunately there's nothing getting in your way if you use the jfx. 11 minutes traveling southbound from 695 all the way to fayette street. everything will remain up to speed through the fort mchenry tunnel as well as the harbor

tunnel. as we take a look outside, here's the beltway at liberty road, no problems getting down to 95 and the inner loop will be nice and clear through pikesville. this is what 695 looks like. there's nothing to get in your way all the way up to 83. that's a look at your abc 2 time saver traffic. megan, over to you. a family is beginning to say good-bye today to a baltimore man they say died at the hands of police. the viewing is taking place for anthony anderson. he was walking home in east baltimore last week when he ran into several police officers. now, initial police reports say that he died because he was trying to hide drugs by ingesting them. however, now police are admitting that's not true. anderson's family, they want the truth to come out. so coming up in the next half hour, we're going to tell you how this family plans to take action this weekend. anne arundel county woman right now sitting in a jail cell this morning, accused of trying to run over her estranged husband with a pick- up truck. petina moorehead, from shady side has been charged with

attempted murder and police say that the two were arguing when moorehead got into her truck and they say she pinned him behind that truck and another car that was parked. her husband whose name is not being released right now has life-threatening injuries. he's in the hospital. the future of the wrecker theater in towson rests in the hands of the liquor board. this is all after a fraternity party got out of hand last weekend. police say a man was shot and several others were arrested when a huge fight broke out. right now the liquor board can either do nothing, they can suspend or fine or pull the theater's liquor license. that meeting is scheduled for october 15th. we will, of course, keep you posted on what happens. his death has stumped law enforcement officials for decades now, and today they are hoping that a driveway in michigan will lead them to the body of jimmy hoffa. crews right now will be digging in roseville which is a suburb of detroit after police received a tip from a dying man. he claims that he saw a body placed in the ground while that driveway was being built.

hoffa disappeared back in 1975 after walking out of a restaurant in detroit and has never shown up since then and nobody has ever been able to find his body. >> if it somehow happens to be mr. hoffa, well, end a major mystery. >> police have received dozens of tips over the years and have dug up everything from giants stadium to back yard pool. a gunman is among the people killed in a shooting in minneapolis late last night. police say the shooter described as a disgruntled employee walked into the stien store and started shooting. at least three people died, several more were injured. police say the gunman died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. when you're home during the day, the last thing you expect is for somebody to kick in your front door and break in. but that's what's happening in howard county. abc 2 news' linda stow has the details. linda, how many times has this happened and what period of time? >>reporter: megan, police in howard county know of at least

10 burglaries this week alone. investigators believe the same man is behind all of them. it appears the burglar is knocking on doors and if someone answers, he acts like he's lost and is trying to find someone's house and then leaves. if no one is home, police say he kicks in the door and takes valuables. the burglary is striking during the late morning and early afternoon in colombia, elkridge, clarksville and woodbien. >> we had a case where he knocked on the door and was a 1 who didn't answer. he then kicked the door in and when he saw that someone was home, he ran. so we don't have a specific or detailed description at this point, but we want anybody who's had anything like this happen in their neighborhood. >>reporter: and police say he should deadbolt exterior doors and hide valuables in places a burglar may not suspect. linda stow, abc 2 news. news time now 4:36. the bitter battle between american airlines and its pilots has taken another nasty

turn. airline executives have threatened legal action. this is all over recent delays. a record number of flights, they have been canceled or delayed as the airline struggles over new contracts with the pilots union. american executives claim that the pilots are purposely causing those delays by calling in sick and writing up more maintenance reports. a rep for the pilots union says the legal threats will only make the negotiations worse. california is joining maryland and illinois in banning the practice of employers asking for social media passwords. this starts in january. it's going to become illegal in that state for employers and universities to ask for an applicant to give over their passwords. now, recruiters, they argue that it is one way that they are more likely to review a potential candidate or use backgrounds. however, lawmakers, they fired back saying the practice is an invasion of privacy and that employers, they were taking advantage of people who were desperate to find a job.

a well deserved day off, that is for sure. the orioles right now, they are in the final home series. it's happening tonight against the boston rockies. and -- boston red sox. and for the first time in more than a decade, the o's are looking to play a little longer into the month of october. this is pretty exciting. that's why charley is live down at the ballpark with a preview of what is in store for fans headed down to camden yards for this critical weekend series. charley, the team really rolling out the red carpet now. >>reporter: they are rolling out the red carpet for the fans. megan, who would think back to april 6th, opening day, society twins here at camden yards, some six months later we would be in the middle of an a.l. division race and also leading the wildcard, nothing any orioles fan would have thought. they're not going to worry about it nonetheless. it is fan appreciation weekend and it starts tonight here at camden yards. it's a combination event, as is always on friday night, it's student night. they get discounted tickets to the upper deck with the showing

of a student i.d. it's been that way all season. but fireworks are going to be up as well, it's going to be a big extravaganza for the fans, all of this leading up to tomorrow with the unveiling of the statue out on the concourse. that would be mr. oreo himself, brooks robinson. his statue will be unveiled to go along the with the likes of cal, palmer and also eddie going to be out there as well. brooks robinson gets his name and statue immortalized this weekend at camden yard. >> we've seen crowds in the middle of the week, almost 30,000 every game which is fantastic, all things considered when three weeks ago we were at about 10,000 tickets a game. >>reporter: it's amazing to think 30,000 fans here on a weekday night, that would be a great turnout for the orioles, big for the weekend. tomorrow's game is sold out. as we told you, friday is going to be firework tonight as well as student nont, then it's brooks tomorrow night and then

when traffic picks up. >>reporter: it was really foggy on the way in from bel aire this morning. you do want to be extra careful. hopefully the rain is not here to stay. >> no. it's not here to stay. that's some good news because we know ouo's are playing. late talk about what's going on right now because we still do have a few showers out there, so not only are we dealing with patchy fog this morning, we do have the showers. this is the third day in a row that we've been dealing with the wet weather in the morning. we'll get a break in the action as we go later into the morning. we'll get the sun, we'll get the clouds, and then yesterday we actually got some more showers coming back. today i'm not going to rule that out, but we should stay mainly dry as we go into the afternoon. but i do think there's maybe a chance for a shower or two along the eastern shore. i'll show you that in a second. as you head out the door this morning, take the rain gear because it is pushing into baltimore county, harford county, all of this is sliding off towards the east as of now. temperatures still on the mild side, 70 degrees in baltimore, 64 in northville, westminster at 64 and at 65 degrees in rock

now any child under the age of 8 must be in a booster seat unless that child is over 4'9". some major federal funding is coming to maryland and it's all thanks to the affordable healthcare ability. the head of the howard county health department and senator ben carden, they're going to be on hand for this big announcement happening today. the cal ripken foundation is getting some help this morning. [ inaudible ] plans to donate $25,000 to the foundation in support of their local initiative to help teach critical life lessons to damaged children. two local letter carriers, they are becoming part of an elite club this morning. the u.s. postal service is recognizing two from dun dawk and that's for driving one million miles without being involve inside a single accident. a while back we told you about a woman who brought a real renmore painting. this happened at a yard sale. she bought it for $7 at a flea market in west virginia. turns out that painting may have been stolen from a local museum.

you see the artwork was a surprise and it was supposed to go up for auction and tomorrow, that's when it was going to happen. however, a reporter did a little digging and believes that that painting, it may have been stolen from the baltimore museum of art more than six decades ago. the action has been called off and the fbi is now investigating. a seven-week-old puppy stolen from an animal resource foundation on ken island now back where he belongs this morning. you see, somebody brought mango into the foundation's adoption center last night. we're told that he is doing well and now he's back with his mother. you've heard about the dangers of drinking and driving. well, how about drinking and riding? the wild ride one man took police on and how they managed to finally slow this wayward cowboy down. plus a strange image that was caught by a camera that may have many people taking a second look at it. we're going to show it to you just ahead.

look at that, a rock star welcome last night for the professional referees at the ravens game. fans cheered as they walked onto the field. the nfl reached an agreement with the refs' union at midnight wednesday, meaning no more replacement refs. at that was basically welcome news for both ravens and browns fans. a close game throughout the night. big night for kerry williams who intercepted a pass and ran the ball 65 yards for a touchdown win. final score 23-16 ravens. the way we like it. and you can see it was kind of a wet night at certain points. >> exactly. so it started off dry and then the wet weather moved in across the area. today we have the o's playing and people want to know what's it going to look like. >> not only this morning, but as kids head out the door. >> exactly. so we are going to be wet this morning, and we're going to be dry this evening. so it looks like they are going
